Blast from the past

I was just looking through some of the multitudes of photos I have on my computer, and I ran across these which I'd scanned in a few years ago. Awww... ;)

Sex!

Haha, okay, how much do I love this show!? It is so great. I went to Laurel's after work today and she made me dinner and then we started from the beginning of season 1 and watched 5 episodes of Sex and the City. That show makes me so happy. Or maybe it's the half a bottle of wine I'm feeling right now!! I think another Sex and the City party is in order - I remember I had one 3-4 years ago but it's time for another! (I should dig up a photo of that party... of course I was Charlotte, hehe, love her.)

Shopaholic

I'm home from Seattle after 2 full days of shopaholic indulgence. I bought... well, a lot of things, including jacket, shirts, jeans, shoes, panties, and perfume. It all came from stores we don't have here, my favourites being Urban Outfitters, Express, Victoria's Secret, and department stores like Nordstrom. Yay shopping. My mom and I were excellent power shoppers - I think yesterday afternoon we averaged around $100/hour. Haha. Aaaanyway, now I'm back home and tomorrow it's back to the daily grind. But first:

ouch

I. am. so. full. Yes, it really deserved to be written like that. I am bursting. I went out for Laurel's birthday dinner tonight with my two favourite girls and we took her to a great little Italian restaurant downtown. I barely made a dent in my giant pasta order but made a point to drink a couple martinis and have a taste of some dessert! Yum. But I'm definitely needing to hit the gym tomorrow!! Yikes!

Website update is: I have mostly finished the layout... I am now just trying to figure out how to embed Blogger into it! This is proving more difficult than I had thought!! Help!

"I had a lot of dates but I decided to stay home and dye my eyebrows." - Andy Warhol

I love weekends. This one was particularly nice because of the amazing hot weather. Yesterday I spent the majority of the afternoon at the lake, floating on an air mattress. It was so relaxing and heavenly, I would like to do it every day. We then had a BBQ dinner here with some friends along with homemade pina coladas and Dilly bars from DQ. Yum.

Today I made blueberry pancakes from scratch (read: no box mix) and they were delish. (I'm sensing a food-related theme to this post.) Then we went to a swap meet, I bought a new wallet (not from the swap meet) because mine had fallen apart last week, and we ended the afternoon at the art gallery because I really wanted to see the Warhol exhibit. Which was fabulous. Loved it.

Also on Saturday morning, I went to the gym. I'm trying to get back into a gym routine because I've fallen off the boat lately. I get really into it for a couple of weeks and then I seem to lose interest for a month or two and then the cycle starts again. So I'm hoping this time will be different. I'm setting a realistic weekly goal of 3 1-hour sessions at the gym, with basically 30-40 mins of cardio and 20-30 mins of weights/stretches/floor work. I might actually start a separate fitness blog to track my progress and hopefully keep me motivated. I'm not looking to lose weight at all, I'd just like to be healthy and tone up a little more. I'm on my way... last week at the grocery store I bought soy milk to replace my regular milk and tofu to replace steaks.

Tomorrow morning I have to bring my car down to the shop so it can get fixed! Yay! I'll be getting a rental car for a couple days while the work is getting done and then it will feel like I have a brand new car... well, sort of. Hehe. Anyway, I have to be there at 8AM, so... zzz...

my brain thinks strange thoughts

Today was an amazingly gorgeous and hot day. I wish every day could be warm like today. Seriously. I am meant for hot climates. I went to the lake after work and lay on my towel in the sun and I think I felt a little bit of heaven. There were lots of kids with their parents at the beach - there was this one mom and her little 4 year old boy who were together. The little boy was splashing in the shallows an arms-length away, and the mom who was obviously very pregnant was talking to him in typical kid sing-song. And I started thinking about how all of these moments they are having together, he will remember none of them. The whole first 5-6ish years he won't remember anything of (or very small snapshots). And yet she will. It was just very strange to me to watch that moment, which the kid will never know existed.

After the lake, we went for some dinner and the service I think was the worst I'd ever had!! We sat down and I was famished, so I decided what I wanted to eat straight away. She brought us some drinks and then never came back. I flagged her down, told her we wanted to order, she said she'd be back in a minute which ended up being 10 minutes (no, it was not busy either)! We ate our food (she was very quick to clear our plates though!), left us for a while, then asked if we wanted anything else (yes, the bill!!). It took her another 15 minutes I swear, then she came back to ask if we wanted anything else! Um, we just told you we wanted the bill!!! She finally produced the bill, and I waited a couple mins for her to come collect my Visa which she never did, so I ended up taking it to the bar and the bartender made her ring it through. I left her a $2 tip. Hah. And I should have left nothing! But is leaving some ridiculously small amount worse than leaving nothing? I don't know. Seriously though, bad service = baaaad tip!! You suck!

I am now mentally preparing myself for a busy, busy, very understaffed work day tomorrow! TGIF!

The Dark Knight

I went to go see The Dark Knight tonight, after a little bit of whining on my part. I'd been putting off seeing it because I remember that I wasn't really into Batman Begins, and also because the movie is 2.5 hours long and I am very against long movies! My take on long movies over 2 hours is that the editor sucks. Two and a half hours of my life watching a movie is way too long and I usually end up watching my clock to see when it will end. So I wasn't very excited to go see The Dark Knight tonight! But! I loved it! I thought it was really awesome. So angsty and dark but with spices of humour here and there, and the Joker was fabulous. I got so into it, I barely noticed the time flying by, and you know I'm into a movie when the tears start rolling down my face. Now I actually want to watch Batman Begins again - I think I've got a renewed appreciation for Batman (and Christian Bale).

The one thing about movies though is that I get super tired afterwards. Maybe it's the hours of sitting in darkness. I'm yawning my face off right now.

My new website is up and coming... I'm not sure how much I'm loving the layout that I'm coding right now, though, so that is holding me back a little. I might change it all, but I don't know, I'm never really satisfied when it comes to layouts. *yawn* Goodnight :)

university hates me

I think that the university has something against me. Seriously. I have been trying to graduate for months, but they just won't let me!! Originally it was my plan to finish my classes in the summer, and then I could graduate. Oh, but wait, one of three classes I needed (a 400-level Psyc class) was not offered AT ALL in the summer. None. Zero. Zilch. Okay, fine, I took electives instead, which I still needed.

Now, I'm going back to school in September to finish. I still need to work, so I scheduled my 400-level Psyc around my work schedule. I received an email today that said that course has been canceled! What. the. hell!!!! There are only two other classes that aren't right smack in the middle of the day - one of which I'm uninterested in, the other which is Mon, Wed, Thurs from 3:30-4:20, which cuts my workday even shorter and now all the electives I'm on the waitlist for don't work!!!! WHY WHY WHY?!?

This is so ridiculously unnecessary! Don't other students have to work?? So frustrating!!

poo

I am frustrated!!! I registered a domain the other day, and got some hosting for it at a different site, and I can't seem to make the two work together to access my site! How irritating! I have tried infinite combinations of user names and passwords and ftp server names and blah blah and nothing is working! >:(

I have a couple ideas for the new site though... working on some layout ideas - nothing fancy, but just doing a few things I've never done before. I'm giving up on getting anything to work tonight though. I'm about ready to put the computer away and curl up with my book before I go to bed - less brain power!!

This was a pointless post. Yay for Friday tomorrow.

The "Right" way to Blog/Twitter

There is an article in the newest Wired magazine about how to get Internet famous. Normally I don't read Wired, but that article piqued my interest because come on, who doesn't want to be Internet famous?? Isn't that why we have blogs anyway? To think that someone else is interested in our lives? I'm kidding about wanting to be famous, but a little bit of recognition is hard to deny.

The article has a separate insert titled "How to Twitter" and it contains comments from popular Twitter users. Their advice is to tweet at LEAST 10 times a day (although all these top users usually twitter 20+ times a day) because you'll flood the twitter scene and therefore create recognition (this, to me, seems ridiculous); to go outside your comfort zone (check, I can handle that); and to not write about boring things ie. what you ate for lunch (seems pretty intuitive, although I'm pretty sure I have tweeted those types of things before). So, that seems straightforward.

Next, how to gain fame through your blog. These tips seemed a little more vague. The article basically chronicles a blog girl (hey -unrelated thought- remember cam girls from back in the day?!) who is kind of a loved/hated celebrity. Basically, Wired tells you to "Get Noticed" by attending scene parties and getting your photo taken with well-known guests and posting them on your blog, and to dress in ways that will get you noticed. To keep readers hooked, you have to twitter at least 10 times a day, post videos, and of course blog often... This is sounding like a lot of work. I think basically this line in the article best sums up how to be internet famous:

Be a hot woman with an exhibitionist streak.

Grrrr!

This is the right way to start your long weekend: After leaving work for the day at 5:00, relieved you survived the week, you will walk to your parked car and find that it has been hit in a hit and run. Yes, this is what happened to me this afternoon - some retard creamed the side of my car with his wheel, completely ripping half the front bumper off, as he was turning into the driveway of my work building. When I got out there at 5:00, the bumper was completely scratched and half of it was lying on the pavement. And there is NO WAY that guy didn't realise he hit me. Thanks buddy, you made my day.

The only semi-nice thing is that a good Samaritan man was walking by as I arrived at the scene and tried to reattach it for me so that I could drive... which didn't work. He ended up rigging up a bungee cord he had in his truck so that the bumper was raised up off the pavement so I could drive it home. My poor car. :( I have an appointment with ICBC on Wednesday morning for them to assess the damage etc, but I'm really not feeling like spending $$$ on a new bumper right now!! Grrr!
