Bliggity blog.
I just finished baking some oatmeal chocolate chip cookies to bring into work tomorrow. The 80s version of the movie "Hair" was also on TV so I definitely danced around the kitchen as I was waiting for those suckers to cook. Why doesn't anyone do those wicked dance moves anymore, like the mashed potato?! I'm gonna bring it back!!
So I'm being a bad blogger lately because my blog is all over the place and I don't know what to do and consequently I'm doing nothing! Oops. I promise to try to sort this out soon. Ish.
I got a new apartment! Did I write about that yet? The current place I'm living in was only a 2 month sublet until the end of April, so I've recently found a new apartment which I'll be living in all by myself as of May 1. I am so, so excited. It's the cutest small old brick building, and the apartment itself has so much charm, beautiful hardwood floors, but it's been recently renovated so it's all new and lovely looking. Plus the apartment is a "junior 1-bedroom" so it'll be bigger than the bachelors I've been used to living in when I was living by myself in Montreal! Excited, excited!
Although, it's been really great living with a roommate. I will admit I'm going to miss it. I was all nervous and worried about living with someone else at first, but now it's pretty awesome to have someone always around to chat and gossip with, but still someone that you don't feel guilty about just leaving if you want to hang out in your room by yourself.
Our greatest roomie adventure this week was randomly deciding that we wanted to paint the apartment. Magda got this crazy idea, and I quickly latched on because I love decorating and even though I was not wild at first about the whole painting idea, she quickly assured me that everything would be wonderful with the addition of a little wine and some loud music. So we walked on a beautiful warm evening over to Walmart and looked at all those little paint chip samples, and decided to cover the current ugly lilac walls with a lovely neutral grown-up shade of "Sandstorm" and paint one feature wall in "Mystery Storm" - aka a lovely dark blue-grey. For the record, I would enjoy the job of naming paint. ANYWAY, a lot of paint and wine and tunes later, we have a brand new apartment and it's lovely!
But you know the best thing about having a roommate? Is that when she goes away for a week on vacation, the feeling of having the apartment all to yourself is all that much sweeter and even more awesome. Yes. Love it.
I have spent all of this post talking about apartment-related things. Nerd.

I was looking through some photos from last Christmas and I found this photo of me and the girls in my old apartment. Man, I really miss that apartment. I think I just miss having a place that feels like mine. Like home. My current apartment just feels kinda blah and I haven't made it that homey because it was never going to be permanent. And I miss my girls, and my beautiful couch, and that lovely red painting... Looking at that photo makes me homesick. BC has been calling my name lately more than ever...

I am eating chicken fajitas in my new apartment! Not that you really care what I'm eating for dinner, but a notable point is that I actually have an oven in this apartment! This makes me beyond happy. Even if I haven't used it yet, it makes me happy just to know that it's there. I cannot wait to bake! Muffins, scones, pies! And cook real dinners! Baked fish, lasagna, baked sweet potatoes! I think I talk way too much about food and about ovens!
I would like everyone to know that I just ate peanut butter right out of the jar. Does this make me a freak?
So I'm in my new apartment, and it's pretty fabulous. I spent 3 hours this morning painting a used kitchen table and chairs black and I must say it looks rather nice with my dark-wood kitchen and cappuccino curtains! There is definitely an interior decorator in me. This place feels so clean and modern and me. It's got a good vibe. I will post some photos soon!
I've decided that I want to go sky diving. I bet you never thought I'd say that in a million years, what with me hating flying and all. I think sky diving will probably cure me of that forever! Plus, Louis just did it today for his 30th birthday and it sounds soooo amazing. Not to say I wouldn't be freaked out of my mind and pissing my pants, but I need a little more excitement and a little more adrenaline rush in my life! Ideally it would be sweet to do it in November for my birthday, but I'm pretty sure the companies don't operate then because it's too cold! Or maybe I should save it and do it for my 25th birthday next year??? Giant quarter-century celebration next year!!
I ordered some business cards from Moo for my photography business and they arrived today! Moo is a great company because for 50 business cards, I could upload up to 50 different images, and it was very affordable! I had them sent to Nick's address since I knew I'd be in between addresses, and he says they're pretty amazing! I can't wait to see them!
Holy randomness! I think my posts get more random every time. How about a random photo from Jamaica to finish?

I am falling so behind with this thing. Life has been busy. In the past week I have been trying to land both an apartment and a job and both have required a lot of running around and a lot of wasted time! I like point-form. Do you?
- I 99% have an apartment. It's beautiful and modern and in a great location and fairly perfect all around.
- I do not yet have a job. But it's coming. I will not let my inferior French get in the way this time! I. Will. Get. A. Job!
- I had my last photography class tonight and presented my final project. I did a series of portraits. It was pretty cool.
- On Friday I have a photo shoot which I am insane with excitement over and will post more details and pics afterwards!
- I have had a sushi craving for the past 3 days.
- I am currently reading "The Game" so I can learn how to pick up chicks. True story.
- Skype makes my life. If I didn't have it, there would be no way I could last this long so far away from my family and friends. Speaking of, I'm Skyping with my parents in 10 mins...
Bonne nuit!
(P.S. How many languages do you know how to say "Good night" in???)

Tonight I met the old Greek lady who lives on the floor below me. I was coming home after my French class and her apartment door was open. She intercepted me and asked if I would go downstairs and get her mail for her because her knee was sore and she couldn't make it down the stairs. I dropped my bags off, brought my laundry down to the basement and got her mail. When I brought it back to her door, she presented me with a banana as thanks. "Don't worry!" she said seriously, gesturing to the banana, "Don't make you fat!" I laughed, and she told me about her grandchildren and how she's been living in the building for 25 years. She was very chatty and very sweet and now I have an extra banana in my fruit bowl.
That is the second time that a random person has offered me fruit in this city. First it was an apple from a guy in the park, now it's a banana from a Greek lady.
Things are happening. I'm making some changes. And I'm feeling calm and refreshed.

Baby it's cold outside
These hardwood floors may look pretty, but they sure as hell don't keep it warm in here. I am cold. I'm sitting here in my stretch pants, socks, slippers, long-sleeve tshirt and sweatshirt and I can still say that my nose is cold to the touch. My heat is on up to 25 and it's not warm. I had to go jump in the shower an hour ago because I was almost shivering. Seriously. I need a space heater. I think it's the hardwood floors combined with the single-paned windows combined with the fact that this apartment is just one big room, and so it's hard to heat. Or it could be that the windchill is -8C outside. Since I've been here I've rarely felt warm. Or warm enough. Although sleeping in my bedroom is fine because I can turn on the heat and close the door, but hanging out out here sucks!I bought mayonnaise at the grocery store today and it expires on Friday. For the amount of times I eat mayo (in grilled cheese, which is rare, and in a tuna sandwich, which is even more rare), I don't think I will finish this vat of mayo by then. Looks like I'll be taking it back to the store. I think the whole concept of mayonnaise is pretty disgusting if you think about it - white goo made up of what exactly? Made up of FAT. I got the "Calorie wise" mayo and there is still freaking 4g of fat in 1 tbsp. That's a little gross.

Let it snow
What is it about snow that makes everything so quiet? Is it because it blankets everything and muffles sound? Or because it makes people here not want to drive and so I hear no traffic noise? I can't decide.I'm feeling pretty cozy in my apartment right now as the first snow of the year falls quietly outside my window. So much is falling, which is so unusual for here. The temperature is supposed to stay below zero for this whole week, so the snow will likely stick around. Perfect timing to get into the Christmas spirit. :)
Today was my Christmas party for work, and I think we got pretty spoiled - we played the presents game where you can unwrap or steal a present. I ended up with a scarf & mittens set as well as a $75 gift card to Winners. What I was really fighting for was a cute purple luggage set, which included a wheely carry-on bag, but it got stolen from me, damn it! But now maybe I can use my gift card to go buy one...
Last night I had a housewarming party and it was fabulous. I made hot apple cider which I then poured generous amounts of red wine into, and I had cookies and rice krispie squares to eat. Lots of fun and festivities were had! I think it's about time I posted some photos of my new place, don't you?

Moving in 2 days!
Have I mentioned yet that I'm beyond excited about moving into my new apartment? Didn't think so. I'm going on a trip to Ikea tomorrow to buy a bed, mattress, bedding, bowls, art, curtains, picture frames, among lots of other things. Let's see how much money I can spend! I get the keys to my apartment at 1pm on Sunday, so there will be a giant moving party that day! And it's perfect that I don't work Mondays, because then I will have a whole day to unpack and settle in. Yayayay. Monday night will be such a good feeling.Life is so exciting right now! Moving and everything else is just going so well. :) This week has been another busy one complete with a play, a craft fair, going out for dinner a few times, coffee dates, late nights, and happiness.

Just live your life, no telling where it'll take you
My abs hurt. I don't think they've ever really been sore before, so this is a weird feeling. They got a big workout at the total body conditioning class I went to last night... and I'm feeling a bit sore all over. But it's great. Love it.Happy Birthday to me!! Well, on Thursday. I am now the ripe old age of 23, and another year wiser, and embarking on another year of new possibilities. I'm excited to see what will happen :) I'm also really excited because tonight I'm going out to celebrate with the girls! We're going to dress up fancy and then go have dinner and drinks and get plastered.
Other exciting news!! I got an apartment!! My own 1 br, all to myself, and I move in Dec 1. Yayayay! It's super cute, about a 20-30 min walk from downtown, and only a 5 min drive from my work. It's got refinished hardwood floors and a balcony, and it's a corner suite... the only hilarious part about it is the kitchen which is tiny tiny and it's got a beautiful retro olive green fridge. Woot. I think I can handle it. I'll turn the kitchen into retro chic!! :)
My current motto for life: Just live it. Don't hesitate. Experience it. And that's what I've been doing: living and learning. I feel alive.
